Rich is a 40 year aviation Industry veteran. 39 of those years were spent with United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney where he launched his career as a propulsion engineer, opened the Commercial Engine function in UTC’s Washington D.C. Office and branched into Advanced Technology and Business Development.
Mr. Altman is a founding member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), Transportation Research Board (TRB) Committee on Aviation and the Environment which gave birth to CAAFI in the 05’/06 time period. He is the author of that committees Critical Issues paper on Technology Deployment and a forthcoming paper on Alternative Fuels.
Rich holds Engineering Degrees from the Brooklyn and Rennselaer Polytechnic Institutes and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.

Tim Bingham

Tim Bingham is Technical Director of Air BP, the aviation fuels division of the BP Group responsible for the marketing and supply of aviation fuel and lubricants.. Air BP’s top priority is the safe & reliable supply to all our customers at some 1150 airports world-wide. The role of the Technical Director is to develop policies, standards and procedures in support of this goal.
Tim has worked for the BP Group for 35 years, mainly in the aviation sector holding various commercial and operational roles in North America, Far East and Middle East. He has been Air BP’s Technical Director since November 2004.
The BP Group’s public stance on climate change is well known and the company has consistent actions across its many businesses to maintain its GHG emissions 10% below its 1990 emissions base line, despite being a greatly enlarged enterprise.

Jeff Braun

Mr. Braun currently serves as the Director of the Alternative Fuels Certification Office (AFCO) located in the 77th Aeronautical Systems Wing, Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC), Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Mr. Braun and his team are responsible for the overall management of the USAF fleet-wide alternative fuels certification effort. The AFCO is currently concentrating their activities on the analysis and testing required to certify a 50/50 blend of synthetic and JP-8 fuels for operational use.
During his 25 years with the USAF, Mr. Braun has held a wide-range of positions within the acquisition discipline including Development System Manager for the T-38 aircraft, System Program Manager for the AC-130U Gunship, AFMC Test & Evaluation Policy Manger, and T-6 (JPATS) Test & Evaluation Director. Prior to his government service, Mr. Braun worked in the private sector as a design engineer on the C-17 Airlift System for the Douglas Aircraft Company, Long Beach, CA.
Mr. Braun holds a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Dayton, and is a graduate of the USAF Test Pilot School.

Dan Bulzan

Dan Bulzan has worked in the area of low emissions combustion at NASA Glenn Research Center for over 30 years. He received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. He has performed research in catalytic combustion, particle laden flows, and spray combustion. He is currently serving as an Associate Principal Investigator in the Combustion Discipline for the NASA Fundamental Aeronautics Subsonics Fixed Wing Project where he is responsible for the emissions reduction and alternative fuels research activities being conducted.

Dave Daggett is a technical fellow at The Boeing Company, responsible for developing technology to make Boeing aircraft environmentally preferred products.
He has over 30 years of experience in aerospace; first teaching aeronautics classes at San Jose State University, and then working for many years in the fuels and combustion group at Rolls-Royce. Dave is the chairman of SAE’s environmental committee as well as the R&D leader of the Commercial Aviation Alternate Fuel Initiative (CAAFI) that is helping to commercialize alternative fuels. At Boeing, he is the project manager of the biojet fuel program. He also is responsible for researching other environmental technologies that will improve fuel efficiency or reduce emissions. His hobbies include making art glass and biodiesel (that he uses in his own cars.)

Graham Ellis

Graham Ellis is the business manager for UOP’s Renewable Energy & Chemicals group. In this role, Graham managed the roll-out of the UOP/Eni Ecofining™ technology for the production of green diesel fuel and is presently focusing on the development and commercialization of UOP’s second generation biofuel technologies. Graham has been with UOP since 1993, has an MBA from the University of Chicago, and is a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering.

John Fitton

After graduating with a BSc Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, John Fitton lectured in the Mechanical Engineering department, while conducting an MSc on the "Mechanism of Knock Damage in Internal Combustion Engines". Thereafter, he conducted commercial research on internal combustion engines at the Stellenbosch Automotive Engineering (CAE).
This was a great platform for a career in automotive engineering and after a short period in product development at Volkswagen, he joined BP Southern Africa as the Automotive Fuels and Lubricants Technical Manager. Since then he has been involved in numerous industry committees and forums, including chairing the committees. Five (5) years ago he joined Sasol and have been responsible for fuel application technology and stakeholder liaison.
He is also a executive committee member of the South African Institute of Tribology and has been intimately involved in the synthetic jet and cleaner fuels journey for a number of years.

Sian Foster

Sian graduated from Birmingham University with a degree in International Studies with French, having specialised in EU policy. After starting her career at the International Air Carrier Association (IACA) in Brussels in 2000, she joined Virgin Atlantic's Government and External Affairs team in 2003, where she was responsible for parliamentary liaison, consumer affairs and CSR. In late 2006 Sian moved to the newly-formed Business Sustainability team at Virgin Atlantic, which is tasked with developing and embedding sustainability objectives throughout the airline, and now works on a wide range of projects relating to aviation and climate change.

Helge A. Hafstad

Helge joined civil aviation after seven years in the Royal Norwegian Air Force when he joined the Navigation Office of Braathens S.A.F.E in 1987. After graduating from the Sheffield School of Aeronautics as a flight dispatcher he held positions as dispatcher, coordinator and later as Head of Section Flight Dispatch before joining the VP Flight Operations staff as Manager Flight Support. Helge worked with flight planning, performance engineering including being project co-manager for introducing on-board computers for performance calculations. He also made procedures varying from dispatch training to drift-down and oxygen requirement calculations in addition to writing for various operations manuals. Helge is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society and of The Norwegian Society of Engineers and Technologists.
Helge got involved in environmental affairs in the late 1990ies and assisted with the company yearly report for a few years, before taking over responsibility for the flight operations part of the report. As Manager Flight Support and Environment for SAS Braathens, as the company became after the merger between Braathens and the Norwegian part of SAS, Helge became responsible for the yearly report and for coordinating activities in Norway with the SAS Group environmental staff. The environmental management position for SAS Norway was made full time in 2007.

Chris Lewis

Chris Lewis is the Rolls-Royce plc Company Specialist for Fluids. He currently has the corporate responsibility for issues relating to, Aviation, Marine and Energy Liquid Gas Turbine Fuels, Lubricants and Elastomers.
Chris has worked in this area for 30 years and has a good knowledge of all aspects of fuel, including production, refining and handling but with high a high degree of expertise in the impact of fuel quality and properties on gas turbine operation. Within Rolls-Royce plc he is responsible for defining and implementing fuel technology acquisition, support to advanced projects and support to engines through development, certification and in-service diagnostics. This experience also means Chris has a good working knowledge of fuel and combustion systems and the interaction of fuel quality with hot-end materials and emissions.
Chris represents Rolls-Royce plc at numerous national and international committees, including UK MoD specification, ASTM, CRC, US DoD, IATA, CAAFI, ACARE etc. Chris has an extensive and effective network of contacts with the global industry including fuel and additive vendors, specification and regulatory authorities, other OEMs and operators.
Chris has played a leading role in many important industry initiatives including the approval of semi and now fully synthetic coal derived aviation fuel. Chris is currently the technical fuels expert lead on several alternative and sustainable fuels initiatives both within RR plc and with key industry partners.

Rob Midgley

Rob Midgley is the Global Technology Manager for aviation fuels. He is a graduate Aeronautical Engineer and qualified pilot with 18 years experience within the aviation industry, including roles in aircraft design as well as airline maintenance prior to joining Shell. He has been in Shell for 10 years, all of them in technical areas of aviation products. He currently runs all of Shell Aviation's research and development programs for fuel products and represents the Shell Group on an international stage.

Decio Pullin

Decio Pullin graduated as an Aeronautical Engineer at the Aeronautical Technological Institute (ITA) in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil in 1974.
Worked for 9 years at the 7 x 10 feet subsonic Wind Tunnel of the Aerospace Technical Center (CTA) coordinating and performing tests for airplanes, ground vehicles and civil engineering projects.
After that worked for a Flight Simulator Company for 3 years developing the aerodynamic and flight controls modules for the EMB-120 Brasilia Turboprop Commuter and EMB-312 Tucano trainer simulators.
In 1987 joined Embraer as an Aerodynamicist and Flying Qualities Engineer and actively participated in the development of the EMB-123 Vector, EMB-145, EMB-170/190 family and most recently in the Preliminary Design of the Phenom 100 and 300 business jets. Currently is the Senior Manager for Advanced Design in Aerodynamics, Flight Mechanics, Performance and Weight and CG groups.
Is a Senior Member of the AIAA and Member of the EAA.

Has been secretary of SAE E-33 Committee on In-Flight Thrust Determination for 10 years
Represents Airbus in the IATA Alternative Fuels Project, and in the US Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative.

Dr. Max Shauck

Dr. Shauck is the Chairman of the Baylor Institute of Air Science at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He received his flight training in the US Navy, carrier qualifying on the USS Lexington. His PhD is in Mathematics from Tulane University and he has been on the faculties of a number of US universities including Yale and Duke before joining Baylor University. Dr. Shauck’s life has been dedicated to aviation related activities. He ran his own flight school, flew unlimited aerobatic competition and airshows, and flew instrumented aircraft to monitor air pollution in North, Central and South America. He is the pioneer of the use of ethanol as an aviation fuel having done all of the initial research and development work, and having obtained the first FAA certification for this fuel. He has completed five National Aeronautic Association (NAA) certified record flights, including the first Transatlantic crossing on ethanol fuel for which he received the Harmon Trophy. Dr. Shauck and his team at Baylor University also conducted testing of biofuels in turbine engines, in a test stand and in flight, including analyses of gas emissions. He has integrated all of his aviation experience in developing the curriculum of a unique program offered at Baylor University called the pilot-scientist program. He was the recipient of the 2001 Federal Aviation Administration “Excellence in Aviation Award”.

Grazia Zanin

Grazia Zanin is the Director of Research at the Baylor Institute for Air Science. She holds degrees in Earth Sciences and Environmental Sciences and FAA Private, Commercial, Instrument and Flight instructor licenses. She has been working in the areas of air pollution monitoring with instrumented aircraft and the research and development of renewable aviation fuels for the last 20 years. She was a pilot on the first transatlantic flight on ethanol fuel. Grazia is presently managing various air pollution monitoring programs using instrumented aircraft in the USA and programs funded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) related to further research, development, certification and promotion of renewable aviation fuels. She has been a major contributor to the development of an International Masters Program in Environmental Sciences in collaboration with three American and three European Universities. She is currently involved in the development and implementation of the Green Airport concept in the Dominican Republic.
